New UK COVID-19 variant reaches Canada

The couple in Durham who tested positive had no known travel history, exposure or high-risk contacts, top medical official Dr. Barbara Yaffe said in a release.

A new variant of the COVID-19 virus discovered in the United Kingdom earlier this month reached Canada on Saturday with two confirmed cases in Ontario.

The couple in Durham who tested positive had no known travel history, exposure or high-risk contacts, top medical official Dr. Barbara Yaffe said in a release.

The pair were informed and are now in self-isolation, following rules outlined by public health.

Ontario entered various stages of heightened lockdown measures reminiscent of the March shutdowns as Canadian governments attempt to fight a second wave of coronavirus infections.
